St. George's College, winners of this year's Manning Cup, beat Russea's High, winners of this year's DaCosta Cup 1-0, in their first leg meeting of the Olivier Shield, yesterday.
[The Manning Cup competition is the premier football competition amongst Corporate Area (Kingston & St. Andrew) High Schools in Jamaica.
The DaCosta Cup competition is the premier football competition amongst rural area High Schools in Jamaica.
The Olivier Shield is the most prestigious Jamaican SchoolBoy Football competition and is competed for by the winners of the DaCosta and Manning Cups].
The second leg of the Olivier Shield (which is also the final leg), will be on Saturday in Kingston.
The overall winners of legs 1 and 2 will win the Olivier Shield.
Now the question of the week, can George's make it the big three (3)?
Can they cop all three (3) major SchoolBoy Football titles for this year?
Namely, the Manning Cup, the Walker Cup and the Olivier Shield?
I think so.
George's, under the leadership of head Coach Neville "Bertis" Bell, has shown that they have the tenacity and ability to win and to shut down other teams to secure that win.
If George's wins the Olivier Shield this will be their thirteenth win of the Shield. Their last being in 2009.
